Simplify Your #Chess Tournament Organisation with JotForm

As you may have noticed, when you enter one of my events you have to complete an online form.  This is usually made possible by the availability of free software such as http://www.jotform.com/ which makes form creation simple, even for those who can't write code.

After you submit the form you are sometimes autoforwarded to a payment page.  Sometimes you have to copy and paste a link into a browser.

You should always get an on-screen message to confirm your entry.  If you have typed your email address into the form correctly you should also get an email confirming your entry with some further information about the tournament.

What you don't see is that behind the scenes these forms secretly assemble all the data you enter onto a spreadsheet, and 'all' I have to do before I run an event is check the data (is he a member of the ECF?  Does she have a FIDE ID number?) and I can then import the spreadsheet into an approved pairing program such as Tournament Director, or my own favourite program Swiss Master, a Dutch program.

The advantages of using pairing software to run chess tournaments are obvious, but the real advantage for me is that using this software makes the grading and FIDE rating of the 10,000+ games you play in my events every year a relatively simple process!

I highly recommend that for your next club event you try creating an account with JotForm and put together an online registration form.

chess england tournament calendar

Here is a list of FIDE registered tournaments in England. There will be a separate entry for each section of each event (e.g. Golders Green Rapidplay = 4 sections, 4 registrations). If you see any of mine missing, do let me know!

Scroll down to the bottom to access the archive of events.

Only games where at least one of the players has a published standard FIDE rating will be rated, and included in the rating calculations of the unrated player. Where both players are rated, the game will affect both players and will be included in the calculations for both players.
